EXTRACTS FROM HOMEPLACES
Selections from a 1989 collaboration between Keri Hulme and Robin Morrison
Homeplaces is a 1989 hybrid photography/literature collaboration between photographer Robin Morrison and Keri Hulme. I honestly had never heard of it until I picked up a copy at Pegasus Books a while back. The book is based around three South Island coastlines: Ōkārito (to the west), Moeraki (to the east), and Rakiura (to the south). Each area gets work from both Hulme (poems and prose) and Morrison (series of photographs).
As I often am with books like this, I’m always really happy to be surprised at how much writing is in here; Hulme gets pages and pages of poetry and prose here to talk about what these places mean to her.
This post contains a few of my favourite selections from Homeplaces.
